What Do Speaker Cabinets, Bootlegs And Potty Training Puppies Have In Common?

Friday, January 1st, 2010

The comparison of guitar speaker cabinets, bootleg records and potty training puppies sounds like the start of a bad joke.  Not in this case.  This is a short description of my publishing career.

Back in 1984, I published a book about building speaker cabinets for guitar amplifiers, PA cabinets and monitor cabinets.  The book was called The Plan Man and was sold through ads in music magazines.  This was long before internet marketing was available.

The next series of books were discographies of bootleg recordings of rock groups.  Bootleg recordings are usually concert recordings that are collected by fans of their favorite group(s).  I published 15 books over a period of 17 years.  I started out advertising in collectors magazines and then set up a webpage.

Recently, I’ve be involved in internet marketing.  One of my pages is about the Gibson Les Paul electric guitar.  Other topics I have pages for are dog training and yoga.

In many ways, publishing an electronic book is similar to publishing an ink and paper book.  The writing, layout and promotion are all pretty well the same.  The advantage of an electronic book is that you don’t have to stock product.
