indie bands?

hey, i was wondering if you could reccommend some indie american or canadian bands who havent made it international yet. i want to be ahead of all my friends!! ive already checked out death cab for cutie, guster and the postal service and i really like them. and im in the middle of downloading songs by the academy is and dashboard confessionals. so maybe something like that? thanks v much.
