In as much as the audiobook phenomenon isn’t too new, there are still lots of people that don’t know certain things about it.

I must confess that I was also ignorant about certain aspects of audiobooks myself.

During my early days of audiobooks, I had to ask certain questions and today I hear a lot of people asking the same such questions.

Who knows, you might also have such questions and you really want to find the answers to them.

If yes, then below are some of these questions and their answers:

What is an audiobook? An audiobook is simply a book in audio format. Instead of receiving a physical hardcover or paperback book that you have to read, you will be able to have someone reading the book to you when you download the audiobooks online in MP3 format.

What is an MP3 audio book? MP3 is simply a compression technique that makes it possible for reduction to be made to audio books so that they use less space (sometimes as little as 80%) compared to that of cassettes or CDs.

What is a dramatized audio book? A dramatized audio book, as the name implies, is a dramatized “play-life” version of the printed book, with usual full cast, music and sound effects.

How can I find the audio book I would like online? You can visit audio book store and search for the particular title you need.

What are the more popular online book store available? There are a few online book stores with huge collections, please do a search using keywords “Audio Book store” from your favorite search engine

Are these audio book expensive? On the contrary, they are cheaper as there is no physical product or delivery. Most online book store allow user to download it directly.

In fact, audiobooks have been available for decades. Becoming more popular in the 60’s as books on tape, and more recently as books on CD. Audiobooks can be played on any desktop or laptop device. With popularity of portable music players such as the iPod and MP3 Player, audio books are more accessible to people for portable listening.

Audiobooks are economical, often less expensive than a hard cover book. Studies show that listening to a recording can enrich your knowledge just as if you were reading a book.

Educational audiobooks have the same content as written books. This helps the person to learn words they may not learn correctly if they were to just read the book. Audiobooks are available in abridged and unabridged versions. Unabridged audio books are word for word readings of a book, while abridged audio books have text edited out by the abridger.

Getting a book published in audio is just as difficult, if not more difficult, as getting a book published in print. Most new popular titles put out by the major publishers are available in audiobook format simultaneously with publication of the hardcover edition. As the audiobook industry gains popularity, the availability of titles will increase.

You may like to listen to fiction and nonfiction best sellers, how-to books, biographies, children books and so on… while doing boring or repetitive tasks. Listening to motivational audiobooks while exercising has become very popular. Some of the most popular are books narrated by the authors themselves such as The South Beach Diet narrated by Dr Agaston.

Publishers hold the copyright to the content of each audiobook and audiobooks may not be reproduced (just like printed books) as it is considered copyright infringement.

Audiobooks enable busy individuals to multi-task and still enjoy some of their favorite literary works. Audiobooks are not intended to replace its paperback and hard book counterparts, but it is definitely a good solution for the times when you simply can’t afford to take time off to finish reading a book.

So while audiobooks may be from the past, they are certainly the new wave of the future!

Looking For Slash Puppet - When The Whip Comes Down Video…

Slash Puppet is a little known Canadian band that made some great music before getting swept under the rug by the grunge invasion.
Formed in Toronto, Ontario by Mif (vocals), Frank Bartoletti (guitar), Lou Garscadden (guitar), Pete Dove (bass) and Franklin Wyles (drums), Slash Puppet would play their debut show on October 1989 at Rock ‘N’ Roll Heaven. In one short year they managed to win the Toronto Music Awards’ “Best Club Act” and are quickly picked up by Rush’s management and signed to a production deal with Sony/Anthem. The band released their first video, “Slow Down”, to MuchMusic in mid-1991 which helped sell over 2500 copies of their independent demo. A year later they were in the studio recording a 6-song EP.
During recording of the EP Slash Puppet went through some changes by being released of their management/label contracts and bringing in new bassist Dave Carreiro. With a second video, “When The Whip Comes Down”, on TV rotation to promote the new self-titled album the band also got a couple of songs included on the soundtrack to the movie Chain Of Command. After winning the “Best Independent Video” at the Los Angeles Area Music Awards the band replaced Garscadden with former Smashed Gladys and Succsexx axe slinger Marcel Lafleur and embarked on a short Canadian tour.
Sensing a musical climate change, Mif announced he was leaving the band to pursue an acting career and Slash Puppet performed four final shows before breaking up. Mif ended up releasing an album with THD in 1996 and Wyles is currently in The Cronics. 2007 saw the release of No Strings Attached, a collection of some of the band’s earliest works.

This is an easy business that anyone can start and with no initial start up costs. There are thousands of people everyday listing their second hand books on Amazon with an immediate customer base of millions. It is so easy.

First of all look for all the books around your home that you no longer want. Once you have your books at the ready then register on the the site which will literally take ten minutes or so.

Listing the books on the site is extremely easy as you enter the international book standard number and it will automatically bring up your book. You then can see the market price for your used book.

I would recommend entering your book price at one penny less than the nearest person which ensures you get a low price tag next to your book. You then just click and complete your listing. You will then send you a sold dispatch now email when the book is sold and you mail the book to your customer.

Once you need more stock I recommend looking at the local charity shops and libraries. Also car boot sales and fairs are very good too. I have bought books for 25p and sold them for 20 pound and this happens weekly.

Not every category of book will sell extremely well so it is very important to avoid modern fiction titles. There are literally thousands of used books in this category on amazon and you will not be able to generate income with these types of books.

You should really be looking for older books with a hobby connotation. Good examples of these could be music, religion, self help, military, arts and crafts, sports and poetry to name but a few.

It is very easy to get the hang of and in time you will easily be able to identify what sells and what does not sell. I also personally sell dvd’s online too but you must make sure that your dvd works before sending out to a customer because good customer feedback is very important in this business. Having said that dvd’s are fast moving items and can easily make you a lot of money.

If you have a library online of about one hundred books or so then you can be expecting to sell about 30 books or so a month. When you reach this level of sales then it makes it worthwhile to become a regitestered book seller. This costs 25 pound a month but also cuts the 85p charge that amazon puts on your account every time a book sells. Of course the organisation needs to make some income from the arrangement with yourself but as you can see the 30 book per month and over limit makes it a viable business decision.

Another top tip is to try and keep your books small to medium in size to save on the postage costs. They are quite generous and will give you a good postage allowance when selling your books but on very large books you will actually lose out.

Having said that school textbooks and educational books are very good sellers and can attract prices over 20 pounds or so therefore I would make an exception for those type of books.

This really is an easy business to operate and amazon provide an excellect online forum so you can talk to other sellers and also gets lots of good tips and advice.

Also as I mentioned at the beginning there are no initial overheads and once you get yourself committed to this business it is incredibly fun and rewarding. When I see those sold dispatch now emails coming through I never fail to get excited and so will you once you start your own online book selling service.

Many people go into the music industry head first and heels up. They have no idea who to buddy up with, or what to do to get their name out there. Think about your career. Your biggest dream is probably to go to a recording studio and make your CD. However, who is going to buy it? Is it really professional enough to sell? How will anyone know who you are when they see your CD?

You have to get exposure. In truth, there is no promise in this industry. You just have to hope that you are heard by the right person. However, how are you going to be heard? Are you organized enough to impress those who hear? If you want to be in the music world, then you have to get a basic idea of how the industry works.

Before we go on, I would also suggest that you begin to read the many fine books on the music business. The more you know the more you will be prepared when success comes knocking at your door.

Many people believe that when they go to a local recording studio and create their record, they are ready to become famous. We all wish it were that simple, but it’s not. In truth, no matter how good your demo sounds, its never good enough until it has a professional label on it. This is where many people fall in the industry. How do you get a record company to sponsor you? It all starts with your demo.

The local recording studio is the first step to success.

Once you have recorded your music to the utmost professional quality, you may send it in to various record companies. What can you hope to achieve by doing this? Obviously you want a record deal, but do you really know what a record deal is? If a record company likes your music they will offer to give you time in their studio. They will do one of two things when they do this. If you show promise, and they believe that you have what it takes, they will loan you the money for the studio time. When you make money off of your record, you must pay them back with interest. Or they will offer you time in their studio that you may pay for yourself. Not just anybody can record in their studio so if you get the offer consider yourself lucky.

Advertising, Who Pays?

Once this has been completed, they will advertise your record through radio time, television, posters etc. This is important because most radio stations refuse to play any material that has not been solicited by a record company with good status. However, this service isn’t free. You must pay the record company back with interest for this as well. So where does the money come in?

Your first album is going to mainly be about getting exposed. You won’t make much money off of this project, but it will give buyers a reason to purchase your later records. This is how you make your money.

The biggest thing to remember is that if this were easy, every one would do it. If every one were noticed artists, there would be no money in the industry. Thus the reason many worthy musicians never get publicity. Just persevere, don’t give up, and you won’t have the burden of never obtaining your chance to fame and success.

The music business, it is a fascinating world and if you learn all you can you will be ready.
